Talk about doing it right the first time. The Avett Brothers had their national TV debut on Friday May 11th on Conan O'Brien in support of their upcoming New CD (Emotionalism released on May 15th), and it was a smashing success with Conan giving the band tons of accolades at the end.
When you see these boys live on TV it's easy to recognize that the Avett Brothers are firmly putting their stamp on popular culture.
What's cool about their meteoric rise is that they are enthusiastically making this happen with essentially just their voices, a banjo, a guitar, and a bass.
Some traditionalists may feel shocked when they first hear them because their sound is such a departure from what they would expect from a "bluegrass" arrangement, but that is missing the point altogether.
It's simply great that a whole new sound can be born from these "old" instruments that captures the passion and imagination of a new generation of music lovers that most likely wouldn't think about listening to their parentís traditional music.
