Volunteer

Thanks for your interest in volunteering with Pickathon 2016! Each year over 1,000 volunteers pitch in to help make Pickathon a great experience for everyone. Volunteer opportunities range from helping with site set up to serving beer to helping make sure the festival stays clean and sustainable. Shifts are available before, during, and after the festival. In exchange for their efforts, volunteers receive a weekend wristband to the festival. Please be sure to read over ALL of the information on this page before submitting an application.

IMPORTANT – NEW THIS YEAR: We are now accepting volunteer deposits by credit card! In order to create a smoother, quicker volunteer application process, we will not be accepting deposits or fees via check. Rather than “holding” a deposit as we have done in the past, will now be charging and refunding your deposit after the festival (this is required by our credit card processor). In light of this change, we have reduced the deposit amount from $273 to $100 to keep it from being cost prohibitive.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR THE FILM PROFESSIONALS CREW: We have created a separate application for the Film Professional crew this year. Please note that all volunteers on this crew must have professional Film/TV/Theater experience. If you would like to help out with film efforts but do not have professional experience, please apply for Film Support on the general volunteer application.

Volunteering: A Pickathon How-To

Volunteer FAQ

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

All Pickathon volunteers must be at least 18 years of age prior to their scheduled shifts.

Are their any other requirements to volunteer?

Each crew has specific requirements so please be sure to read over the crew descriptions to find the crew that best fits your abilities and skills.

Why did you switch to credit card deposits?

The check system we have been using to collect deposits for the last few years has been a complicated process with a lot of room for error. A lot of people just don’t use checks anymore. The time it took for checks to reach us by mail has significantly held up some volunteers applications and caused confusion in the past. The amount of administrative work involved in receiving and processing these checks was a bit overwhelming for our small staff. We believe switching over to a credit card deposit system will make the volunteer application process easier for everyone.

When will I know if I have been accepted to a crew?

Each crew chief selects his or her own crew and works at a slightly different pace, so timing can vary on this. We will try to let everyone know as soon as possible which crew they have been accepted to, but specific shift schedules can take a bit longer. The earlier you apply and the more flexible you are, the quicker we will be able to get back to you. At the latest we try to confirm everyone at least two weeks before the festival, but last minute opportunities can and do pop up.

Does my volunteer weekend ticket include parking?

No. Anyone wishing to drive to the festival must also purchase a parking pass. Parking passes can be purchased here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2488914
We highly encourage you to carpool with other volunteers and split the cost of a parking pass, or look into alternative transportation to Pickathon.

Does my volunteer weekend ticket include Thursday entry?

Probably not. Some volunteers will be permitted to enter on Thursday due to the timing of their shifts (your crew chief will let you know if this applies to you). Otherwise, you may purchase an additional Thursday entry ticket here:  http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2488914

I only want to come for one day. Can I volunteer just enough for a single-day pass?

No. We only accept volunteers who want to work in exchange for a full weekend pass.
