Brownout / Brown Sabbath
Austin based Brownout is an 8-piece band whose distinctive sound is a mix of Latin-Funk and Psychedelic Rock with raw soulful vocals. Formed ten years ago by Grammy Award winners Grupo Fantasma, the band has evolved into a musical force all its own. After garnering a third Austin Music Award last year (for Best Latin Rock Group), Brownout has continued to produce music that is progressive while evoking the classic influences of bands like WAR, Cymande and Funkadelic. They have performed at Bonaroo, High Sierra Music Festival, Bear Creek Music Festival, Pickathon, Utopia Festival, Pachanga Fest, FFFFest and the Red Bull BC1 North American BBoy championship finals.
Brownout is also a highly in-demand backing band for a wide-range of artists including Prince, Daniel Johnston, GZA, Raekwon, Masta Killa, and Bernie Worrell. The band's alter ego, Brown Sabbath is a unique tribute to Heavy Metal Godfathers, Black Sabbath. They have released three albums to date filled with B-boy breaks Latin-Funk, Afrobeat and Chicano-Soul. The radical ensemble heads into 2014 with the release of their forthcoming EP entitled Brown Sabbath, Brown Impressions of Black Sabbath featuring special guests including singers Alex Maas of the Black Angels and Alex Marrero.
