Curious Ear is an empathy-building project, formed to bring people together who might not otherwise meet, create space for those to be heard, and give voice to those without.
Pairs of of 7’ tall structures are connected and placed at demographically different parts of the city. A welcome screen within the ear invites you to speak what’s on your mind, with prompts such as, “Describe a day you’ll never forget.” What is said into the ear by one person, can be heard at a mouth, by another.
In a time so marked by division, this project encourages users to discover the common grounds we share. Intention is put into the placement of each structure—nursing homes that connect to elementary schools; urban areas to rural; red states to blue. By communicating with those outside of our everyday circles, our understanding and empathy grow, as does the strength of our community.
