An audition-based ensemble from Forest Grove High School in Oregon, Mariachi Tradicíon was started in 2016 by Lesslie Nuñez, head of the orchestra and mariachi department. The group consists of 6 violins, 2 trumpets, 1 guitarron, 1 vihuela, 2 guitars, 1 harp and vocals. Mariachi Tradición has had the privilege of opening for internationally renowned artists such as La Santa Cecilia, who were so enthralled by them that they were invited to collaborate on two songs at the end of their set. They also had the opportunity to collaborate with local artist Edna Vazquez and the Oregon Symphony at the Arlene Schnitzer in Portland. Just this year, Mariachi Tradicion opened up for Mariachi Flor de Toloache at the PDX Jazz Festival at the Newmark Theater, they were invited to the Portland Art Museum to perform for the Frida Kahlo + Diego Rivera exhibit, and were also invited back to Revolution Hall to collaborate with La Santa Cecilia for a second time to a sold out crowd.
