Thanks to the help of volunteers and everyone who attended Pickathon, we’ve recycled and composted like no other festival. From using Klean Kanteen cups, to washing your own dishes, every sustainable effort y’all did made an impact! Pendarvis Farm looks way better without hundreds of plastic bottles on the ground anyway.
Check out this year’s 2015 waste summary from Jake Hofeld, Pickathon Recycling & Waste Coordinator:
The Pickathon Recycling Crew would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for helping keep Pickathon 2015 the most sustainable event in the country. With your help, we were able to divert about 60% of the waste generated away from the landfill through recycling and composting. On top of that, everyone’s use of the reusable cups, bowls, and utensils has greatly reduced waste generated overall, which makes our job all that much easier! We were even able to get Portland State University’s Student Leaders for Service Chapter to come and collect deposit bottles and cans for their non-profit.
As always, any recommendations for helping us further improve our recycling practices are welcomed and encouraged. A special thanks goes out to Oregon Paddle Sports of Eugene and Nature-TEC for providing supplies. See you next year!
