Today we have the treat of a new Woods Series episode and this is a treat indeed. Below is an account of Dungen‘s Sunday evening performance from Jerad Walker of opbmusic.org…

On the final day of Pickathon last summer, Swedish rock band Dungenclosed out the Woods Stage lineup with a sprawling, almost cinematic performance among the creeping trees of Pendarvis Farm just outside of Portland, OR. Halfway through this rendition of “Häxan,” frontman Gustav Ejstes thanked the crowd for coming out to the festival. He stumbled to find the appropriate words to describe what he was feeling before asking the audience to pardon his bad English. But there was no need to apologize. His band did all the talking with a joyous explosion of proggy rock that lit up the forest and had the crowd swaying in unison.

Every month this year, opbmusic and NPR Music will present another song recorded live at the Pickathon Woods Stage. These videos are hand-picked by opbmusic to showcase some of the festival’s most exciting performances. Look for the next premiere in late May.

Pickathon turns 20 years old this year and returns on Aug. 3-5, with a lineup that features newly announced additions Shovels & Rope, I’m With Her, Sheer Mag, Wild Child, Frazey Ford and Sunflower Bean.

The Pickathon Woods Series was made possible by support from Klean Kanteen.
