The December video premiere of the Woods Series features the stirring, soulful “Black Moon Rising” by Black Pumas.

Jerad Walker shares this background context from opbmusic.org  :

Last year, prolific musician and producer Adrian Quesada (Brownout, Grupo Fantasma) began writing a batch of psychedelic soul instrumentals. Although the demos were strong, he needed a dynamic singer and lyricist to round out the project. Quesada cast a wide net, but a mutual friend eventually introduced him to singer and fellow Austin, Texas-resident Eric Burton, whose soulful voice fit the rough tracks like a glove. The two finished the songs in short order and quickly recorded their debut single, “Black Moon Rising.”

Although that single was the only material available publicly when they took the Woods Stage this summer at Pickathon, their five-member band now known as Black Pumas commanded a sizable afternoon crowd. Those curious fans were treated to a flawless performance from Burton, Quesada and company, and were left wanting more. But this slow-burning performance of their breakout single was the highlight.

The Woods Series is presented by opbmusic.org and features a new video from the Pickathon Woods Stage on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.

Filmed at the Woods Stage at the beautiful Pendarvis Farm on Sunday, August 5, 2018.
