The María’s are psychedelic soul. Lead singer and auteur Maria’s vision of southern European ye ye music of the 60s, and modern R&B, caramelized by the qualities of French New Wave cinema, to create a big mood. These are bops about love affairs and longing; Maria’s velvety voice floating on atmospheric waves of keys, punctuated by smooth horns and head bobbing beats. Kaleidoscopic in influence, but not pastiche, the bilingual, multicultural band has even coined the best descriptor for their own music, it’s the title of their albums “Superclean”, vol’s I and II.
