Most anticipated new group, Bonny Light Horseman, making Pickathon debut this summer
Wednesday June 12, 2019

The word supergroup gets bandied about a lot these days but the honorific could not be more apt when describing Bonny Light Horseman. Members Anais Mitchell (8x Tony Award Winner THIS WEEK for Hadestown), Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats), and Josh Kaufman (Josh Ritter, Hiss Golden Messenger) have spent the last decade sculpting the sound of independent music. Spiritual guru, and song-whisperer Josh Kaufman’s production credits range from The National, to The Hold Steady, to Bonnie Prince Billy, and Bob Weir, not to mention his performances and songwriting alongside The War On Drugs, and Hiss Golden Messenger. Eric D. Johnson is the critical favorite and indie-darling genius behind Fruit Bats. Anais Mitchell’s Hadestown is the first ever broadway musical (based on her star-studded 2010 concept album that brought folk greats like Greg Brown and Ani DiFranco together with Justin Verson of Bon Iver) written by a woman to win a Tony Award. These three form the core of Bonny Light Horseman with the goal of getting mystical on some traditional folk jams, and boy do they ever; these harmonies are rapturous. Frankly, we’re pretty damn lucky, since we’ll get to hear them live before they end their summer playing with Mandolin Orange at the Ryman in Nashville.

See them at Pickathon for the first time… performing on Thursday and Saturday! Discover new music while at Pickathon this summer…
