Bring me the Blues! Hit me with that Washboard…slap me around with the Slide-Guitar…rattle my insides with your Boom-Chank!
Portland has always been a good home for the blues, from our dreary winter weather to one of the Biggest Blues Festivals in the Country: The Waterfront Blues Festival.
It is not that common that both Pickathon and the Blues Fest find themselves in the same artist pool….in the same year. Well, 2007 is different story, and both festivals are pleased to present Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band. All are of the Peyton namesake (Rev., Breezy, and Jamie)…and no, that’s not a live monkey on the drums.
This is Raw, Dirty, Shake-the-Caboose Boom-Chank Blues! Washboard, Drums and one hell of a drop-thumb on that bottleneck guitar. Rev. singing and speaking in what some would consider his own language…but rest assured, the story is there…and the words are written down somewhere….scholars, years from now will spend countless hours trying to unlock this great mystery in American Blues Lore. If you have ever had the great pleasure of seeing and meeting this family band you will realize that although in appearance a bit manic and hard-edged, the Peyton’s have HUGE hearts and are not at all reserved when showing appreciation and affection for fans and friends. Maybe it’s all that Boom-Chank?
Catch Rev. and band next weekend at the Waterfront Blues Fest…and also be sure to not miss both sets this year at Pickathon. First on Friday Night starting things off on the Mtn. View stage, and on Saturday they will be joined by their accordion slinging cohort Jason Webley – who knows what will happen?
Boom-Chank!
