The band Glitterfox, consisting of Solange Igoa and Andrea Walker, prioritizes authenticity in their music. Their debut album, “decoder,” is set to release on August 22nd via Jealous Butcher Records, showcasing a blend of garage rock, new wave, southern Americana, and dance music. The album explores themes like identity, fate, and hope, with songs like “Passenger,” “Change Me,” and “Polaroids” (about Walker’s autism diagnosis). “Wildfires” addresses queer romance, inspired by Igoa and Walker’s amicable split after 12 years together, during the album’s creation.
The band’s musical connection remains strong despite their personal separation. Chris Funk (The Decemberists) became their producer-manager after seeing them perform. Glitterfox, with a grant from MusicPortland, recorded singles for Kill Rock Stars.
The band’s origins trace back to 2012 in Long Beach, California, where Igoa and Walker met. Walker, who overcame gender trauma and addiction, studied music therapy, while Igoa, from Bakersfield, pursued music through busking. They became a couple after an open-mic night and won a battle-of-the-bands contest called Buskerfest. In 2015, they bought a van and began touring.
After two years on the road, they settled in Portland, Oregon, where Eric Stalker (bass) and Blaine Heinonen (drums) joined the band. In 2019, they launched Glitterfest, an indie-music festival that also served as their wedding reception, which has become an annual event. Igoa and Walker emphasize their transparency and personal growth throughout their journey, highlighting how their music has helped them embrace their authentic selves.
