Michael Clifford – Light Eye

Michael Clifford’s artwork strives to take photography off the framed walls of a gallery and instead, illuminate them in a sculptural surround. A direct example of this can be seen with Light Eye with the use of steel, glass, direct illumination, and both a digital and photographic chemical print. The piece symbolizes the conical eye and how images are processed in the human brain being reversed and mirrored only to be corrected by our brain. The upper digital image is backlit comparable to how we see images on screen, while the lower mirrored image is viewed by reflective light matching how we view images in the world around us.
