Lauren Breneman & John Boisse of Astral PDX w/Billie Marten

Chefs – Lauren Breneman spent her childhood in Ohio and Michigan and discovered her passion for baking in high school. Opting for a culinary path over art school, she studied baking and pastry at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont. After graduating, she moved to Boston and worked at Sel de la Terre and Eastern Standard under Pastry Chef Lauren Moran. Seeking new experiences, Breneman relocated to Chicago, where she honed her skills at Perennial Virant with mentor Paul Virant.

In 2015, Breneman moved to Portland, Oregon, becoming the pastry chef at Naomi Pomeroy’s Beast and later joined Katy Millard’s Coquine. During this time, she and her partner, John Boisse, founded the pop-up Astral, which evolved into a permanent establishment housed at Duality Brewing in Portland’s Kerns neighborhood. Astral, a Mexican restaurant, quickly gained acclaim, being named one of Eater’s twelve best new restaurants in the U.S. and winning Eater Portland’s Best Chef Residency or Pop-Up award in 2023. Boisse serves as the chef, with Breneman as the pastry chef, bringing their combined talents to Portland’s vibrant culinary scene.

Band – Billie Marten, whose real name is Isabella Sophie Tweddle, is a British singer-songwriter. Raised in North Yorkshire, Billie was surrounded by music from a young age. She began her music career at a young age and was signed to a record label before she even finished high school.

Billie’s music is known for its beauty and honesty. Her lyrics explore a variety of themes, including social commentary, mental health, and nature. She has released three critically acclaimed albums and is working on her fourth.
