The Portal (Welcome Lot)

The Long Porch

Where am I going: A Milwaukie greenhouse (for a retired nurse) + a North Portland gallery installation

This summer, two wooden porches rise in the fields around Pendarvis Farm, greeting travelers at Pickathon’s arrival and departure points. Set against the open horizon of farmland, each Long Porch is a facade without a building, a streetfront without a town. It makes clear you have arrived, even if where you have arrived invites deeper exploration. Collaboratively designed by architecture practices Big-Marks and DRAWINGS and built by Schommer and Sons, the structure is assembled from simple stick-frame wood and, like the festival itself, is present until it is not.

For those driving to the festival, the Welcome Lot is your first stop. You will receive your wristband at our drive-through Ticketing Check-In right in your car, followed by a streamlined gear drop-off. After parking, you have a choice: take a beautiful one-mile walk through the woods and streets to the festival grounds, or hop on the shuttle for a quick ride to the Farmhouse.
