It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Who’s playing Pickathon 2023?? We told you this lineup would be a journey of discovery and we’ve reached out far and wide to bring the best of the best to the Farm this year.
Music fans will recognize indie roots powerhouses Watchhouse, or old-school soul icon Lee Fields, and folks in the know will be happy about alt-glam band Dehd, indie-folk superstar Madison Cunningham, and Zambian psych rockers W.I.T.C.H. But beyond these names, the Pickathon 2023 lineup is stocked with surprises, deep cuts, and rapidly rising artists from across the globe, as it befits a festival known for its curation and ability to spot breakout bands across all genres.
Some bands coming to Pickathon this year are from red-hot local scenes, like Thee Sinseers and The Altons who represent Los Angeles’ new wave of soul music, or Imarhan and Vieux Farka Touré from the wide desert expanses of Sub-Saharan West Africa. Others are spectacular examples of unprecedented cultural collaborations, like the bluegrass banjo and Venezuelan harp combo Larry & Joe, or Orchestra Gold, which melds Malian song with SF Bay Area psych rock. Still others present brand-new genres of music being invented in the moment, like the post-internet jazz of MonoNeon, the Native American powwow + electronic Bon Iver soundscapes of Joe Rainey, or the lo-fi memeology of the hugely popular Yot Club.
Latine music is an exceptional highlight at Pickathon this year with the likes of Colombian psych trad band Meridian Brothers, Peruvian electronica group Novalima, and Mexican punk rockers Sgt. Papers – as is cutting-edge hip-hop from Canadian rapper TOBi, Tampa experimentalists They Hate Change, and jazz geniuses Butcher Brown. Country and honky-tonk remain strong with the likes of Nick Shoulders, The Kernal, and Courtney Marie Andrews, and Pickathon’s rep in indie-rock is unchallenged with fast-rising artists Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, and Florist. With 50+ artists to discover at Pickathon 2023, these artists are just the tip of the iceberg!
