A sort of Portland, Ore. based acoustic melting pot, the band Black Prairie has come a long way in the past six months. Playing their first shows at 2010 Noise Pop!, garnishing attention at this years SXSW, signing to Sugar Hill, and now finally – for those that are still unsure what this band is up to, we get a first listen of their upcoming release Feast of the Hunters’ Moon from our friends at NPR.

Drawing comparisons to what has mostly been described as “60% Decemberists” is a limited view I feel as the sound brings more to mind bands like The Crooked Jades instead of the aforementioned namesake. Nonetheless the record is full of dark corners and ethnic conglomeration and in short is a perfect fit with the Pickathon mix.

Catch the band this week as they tour in support (including tomorrow night at The Woods in Portland), and pick up a copy of Feast of the Hunters’ Moon on April 6 when released.
