For Pickathon 2026, the Lucky Neighborhood transforms into Kaleidoscope City. Inspired by the festival's theme, Metropolis of Imagination, Holst Architecture designed a system of Micro Shading Modules built from two simple modular forms, "inflection" and "refraction," that link together like living cells or stand alone to adapt to any need. Modules throughout the neighborhood create spaces for eating, meeting, resting, and connecting, while a large cluster across from the Lucky Barn provides 100 seats for folks waiting for each show.
The design is built for 100% re-use. After the festival, every module moves to Parrott Creek Child & Family Services in Oregon City, where they'll become an outdoor Cultural Ecology classroom for 20-30 students and quiet moments of reflection along 80 acres of forest, wetland, and meadow trails.
Kaleidoscope City is part of the Creative Neighborhoods program, designed by Holst Architecture, built by Tomcat Design and Build, with tension fabric structures by GuildWorks and social impact partner Parrott Creek Child & Family Services.
