The ancient healing art of QIGONG (chee gung’) allows us to connect with and develop our energy body through gentle movement, breath and intention. We accelerate our innate ability to heal, as the body discovers a more natural, easy strength. Finding stillness and inner strength, we become more grounded and clear minded. All the organ systems benefit as blockages and stagnation are released. We create a stronger flow of energy and more efficient functioning of the body. As one of the world’s oldest and most complete systems of healing, this self-empowering preventive medicine serves as the basis for all the martial arts. Available to all body types. No equipment necessary, just your upright body.
Local Portlander, Rose Allen, was initially exposed to Qigong when she met her first teacher in Laurelhurst Park over 20 years ago. Enamored with this self-healing practice, Rose relocated to Santa Fe, when that teacher established a school there. After four years of intense study and training, she became one of the first certified instructors. As enchanting as the high desert was, she was called back to the Rose City, where she established herself as a teacher. This past year, Rose has noticed a significant increase in interest in this grounding and healing practice among the general population. Simultaneous to her introduction to Qigong, Rose was involved with a group of friends at Pendarvis Farm who helped carve out the initial campsites for what would grow into the Pickathon. After days spent clearing, whacking, and getting slashed by cane berries, the physically-tired clan would gather in the Red Barn to jam and celebrate into the wee hours, providing some of that initial musical energy into the land. Rose is thrilled to share this ancient healing art with festival goers.
