Jonny’s Day Out is a 5 piece rock band from Portland, OR. Between their tender washed-out ambient passages that fall into sweet horn melodies and their blaring wall of wailing guitars and passionate shouts, Jonny’s Day Out rides the fine line of emotional extremes. Coming from Jazz, Classical and Folk backgrounds, the Portland 5 piece creates a live experience that never stays still for too long. Made up of lifelong friends, singer-guitarist-penny whistler Avery Haines, lead guitarist Eli Goldberg, Blu Midyett on bass and saxophone, Jude Abare on trumpet and keyboard and Jasper Gill on drums, Jonny’s Day Out is the result of many years of friendship centered around the inescapable love of creating.
The band’s most recent EP “Bear, Hello” features all of the musical extremes that make the efforts of this group of old friends special. From their lead single “Gardener” to tracks like “Lover Lover”, Jonny’s Day Out continues to expand their musical and lyrical identity. “Please excuse our mess” the group’s debut release of 5 songs, produced by Portland’s “Quickly Quickly” garnered local press and praise landing Jonny’s Day Out in the “Willamette Week” annual “Best New Bands” article. This young group of multi-instrumentalists looks forward to exploring more of the sonic extremes they love to perform on their Debut album, expected to be recorded in the fall of 2025.
