DJ Maaxa is a Portland-based turntablist, writer, radio host, and music anthropologist. From her early days of working in the record stores of the Bay Area, she went on to work with global MCs, vocalists and producers (Barcelona, Memphis, Richmond, Dakar, Austin, New York) throughout her career. In addition to her radio shows, focused on emerging global music, for KUSF and KMHD, she mentors emerging women DJs through free trainings and equipment exchanges. Invested in intergenerational music-making, she is joined by her ten-year-old son, Serene, who will be making his debut at Pickathon this year.
